4. Bronchitis in Delhi: The Most Over-Treated Condition I See

Acute bronchitis is the most common respiratory diagnosis in Delhi — and the most over-treated. How I Investigate for TB at Pulmovista

Sputum AFB smear and culture (3 samples on 3 consecutive days): The first-line microbiological test — sputum stained for acid-fast bacilli. Culture takes 2–6 weeks but provides drug sensitivity information essential for treatment planning.

CBNAAT / GeneXpert MTB/RIF: Rapid molecular test detectable within 2 hours — identifies Mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifampicin resistance simultaneously.
